A Selection from the ECVS Archives

1940s

Edinburgh Cine Society had purchased both the ground floor and the basement of 23 Fettes Row.
The basement was in a state of disrepair, however the ground floor housed a cinema and meeting rooms.
With the start of the War however, many of the members of the society were called up to fight, and for much of the 1940's the repayments on the mortgage were made only due to the valient efforts of the wives of members, who organised many fund-raising events to ensure that the mortgage could continue to be paid, and the property retained for the society after the war.
